Why is building a brand story important and what does it do for your eCommerce business?
Your customers want to see the people behind the product.
It is especially important for customers to know who they’re buying from. Especially in today’s world, we have seen this become more and more important over the past few years. And it just keeps getting elevated in terms of the content recommendations we make to our clients.
People buy from People
People buy from people. They do not buy from a logo. Well, I guess, unless you are Nike. Then people do buy from the swoosh. But let us be honest. The swoosh is kind of like a person these days. So even then, people feel a personal connection to that mascot of the company or the people who represent Nike. Now I realize probably no one watching this is a Nike of the world but you can still be a brand that connects with your individual customers on a one-to-one level.
What does brand story content for your online store look like? The number one piece of content that you should have out there is videos, pictures, or written text around why you started your company. Why did you start your business in the first place? That type of content is unbelievably valuable and it is probably one of the most effective ways to connect with people who are buying your products. And hopefully, potential customers who want to buy your products. A lot of the times that “Why” can help convert them from shoppers to buyers.
Another example of great content to use is to talk about your core values. Every business has a handful of values that really drive every action they take. Talking about that and sharing content around your core values can really make a big impact on your marketing.
Another example of brand story content that does well is the behind-the-scenes content. Pictures of a cart full of boxes that are getting ready to be shipped. Videos of your manufacturing process. Your employees working behind the scenes. All those types of content do well.
That is just a start to your brand story content. That brand-level content can really set you apart from your competitors. It does not have to be all your content –but you really should share more brand-level content than promotional content on social media.
I promise you this if you mix in this brand story type content your engagement will improve. We have seen it over and over, repeatedly for our clients. Trust me when I say this. If you want your engagement to improve this is one of the ways you do that.
